• Charles Heidsieck 1981 Champagne Charlie

    CEO Cécile Bonnefond and chef de cave Thierry Roset are currently in NYC, and I sat down with them this morning to taste a few wines and to talk about the changes going on at the house. I'll discuss those more in my next post, but for the moment, I'll focus on the final wine that we tasted together, the spectacular 1981 Champagne Charlie.

    Champagne Charlie is the house's former prestige cuvée, made in the days before the current one, Blanc des Millénaires. The first vintage of Champagne Charlie was 1979, and it was made in just four vintages after that:
